"Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?”
– Brian Tracy, Author and Motivational Speaker

CEO’S CORNER

It was March of 2020, and Brian and I were on a call with MD Anderson Cancer Center to talk about our latest innovation, BioStōm. We were genuinely excited—BioStōm is a product that can truly support oncology patients who are dealing with the worst of the worst.

But that wasn’t what the call ended up being about.

Almost immediately, the conversation took a turn. We were told there was no interest in discussing BioStōm—not because they didn’t believe in the product, but because the timing wasn’t right. And the timing wasn’t right because something called COVID-19 was on its way to the U.S., and they needed our help.

They needed help keeping the hospital doors open. And to do that, they needed hand sanitizer—everywhere.

We got off the call and just sat there for a few minutes. At first, it was frustrating. We had waited years to launch this product, finally got the top cancer center in the world on a call, and then heard, “It’s not the right time.”

But at Forward Science, our mentality is that everything is an opportunity.

So instead of staying frustrated, we regrouped and thought—how special is it that a partner like this trusted us enough to ask for help, and to ask us to move fast during a pandemic?

During that time, we could have complained. We could have shut down for a year. We could have said, “No, we don’t want to make a product we didn’t set out to make.” But instead, we listened to our partners. We saw the opportunity in the difficulty, embraced it, and got to work.

Within seven days, we were shipping FS Hand Sanitizer across the U.S. Because we’re vertically integrated, we can adapt quickly to what the market needs. In less than a week, we launched a product and shipped it in bottles, gallons, drums—even totes—to hospitals, dental offices, and pharmaceutical companies, helping essential healthcare institutions stay open during an incredibly scary time.

Hand sanitizer isn’t why we started—but it’s part of the Forward Science story now.

So the next time you’re faced with a challenge, don’t give up. Find the opportunity in every difficulty—and LFG.

The Hard-Earned Wisdom of the Hiring Cycle

HIRING LESSONS LEARNED

Every bad hire or lost-opportunity teaches a valuable (and expensive) lesson. After years in the field, here are two maxims that always hold true:

  1. Hire for Slope, Not Y-Intercept: Don't focus only on where the candidate is today (Y-intercept); focus on their rate of learning and growth (the slope of the line). A motivated, high-potential individual with a steep slope will often outperform the high-pedigree candidate whose growth has plateaued.

  2. Culture Add > Culture Fit: "Culture fit" often leads to hiring people who look and think exactly like you. This creates a monotonous, risk-averse environment. Instead, look for culture add: candidates who embody your core values but bring a new perspective, skill set, or background that elevates the entire team.

Don't repeat history. Learn the lessons and build a stronger, smarter hiring system.

THE FS WAY

CORE VALUES SPOTLIGHT

Turning Feedback into Opportunity

At Forward Science, we actively listen to feedback from our customers and users—the good and the challenging. The good tells us what to keep doing. The challenging pushes us to find ways to improve, refine, or even create something entirely new.

Because we are vertically integrated, every piece of feedback is an opportunity—an opportunity to grow, to make our products better, to develop new solutions, or to continue delivering what we do best. Feedback doesn’t stop at a suggestion; it becomes action.

If you have a story, idea, or insight to share, we want to hear it. Your feedback helps shape what’s next at Forward Science.

MARKETING MATTERS

"Do you have dry mouth?"

“Do you have dry mouth?” is a question we often ask patients—but what does dry mouth actually mean to them?

Many patients associate dry mouth with severe symptoms, like their tongue sticking to the roof of their mouth. While that is dry mouth, it represents a more advanced stage. What often goes unrecognized is mild or moderate xerostomia, which can still significantly impact oral health, comfort, and overall quality of life.

This is where patient education matters. Helping patients understand the early signs of dry mouth allows clinicians to intervene sooner, support better oral health outcomes, and recommend solutions before symptoms worsen.

When marketing your products or services, always think like a patient. Simple language, relatable symptoms, and clear education can bridge the gap between what clinicians know and what patients understand.

CONTINUING EDUCATION
